Bridge on the Niger river at Shintaku / Lokoja in Kogi State - Nigeria
The bridge, with two separate carriageways, is composed by 26 spans for a total length of 2179 m. The width is equal to 11.00 m for each carriageway.
The river Niger discharge at the bridge section is about 35000 m3/sec. The permanent river bed along bridge alignment is about 1300 m wide, and is surrounded by flooded areas of about 1 Km wide in Shintaku bank and 0.3 Km wide in the Lokoja bank, contributing to the hydraulic section of the river.
The structure shall be realized with 5 structural elements, connected by sliding prestressed "active joints", that allow the forces transmission; therefore a continuous structure for a total length of  2179 m is achieved.
The deck is composed by a continuous box-girder beam, in prestressed reinforced concrete, to be built through self-supporting successive cantilever blocks. The structure is supported by piers fixed with the continuous beam, realized by pairs of flexible septa, in order to absorbe the concrete creep, shrinkage and thermal deformation.

Bridge on the Benue river at the Ibi town along the Wukari-Shendam Road - Nigeria
The bridge, with two separate carriageways, is composed by 28 spans for a total length of 2369 m. The width is equal to 11.00 m for each carriageway.
The river Benue discharge is about 18000 m3/sec. In the crossing section, the low water river bed width is 1550 m, and the flooded river bed width is 2500 m, with a maximum water depth of 11 m. Above the maximum water level a freeboard of 12.5 m and a clear way spans of 60 m have been required.

The structure shall be realized with 5 structural elements, connected by sliding prestressed "active joints", that allow the forces transmission; therefore a continuous structure for a total length of  2369 m is achieved.
Each one of the three central elements is composed by 4 spans and by two end half-spans for a total length of 475 m; the two lateral elements are composed by 3 spans of 95 m, by a half-span at bridge side and 3 smaller spans at abutment side, respectively of 77 m, 40 m and 34.5 m, for a total length of 472 m.
Each element is composed by a continuous box-girder beam, in prestressed reinforced concrete, to be built through self-supporting successive cantilever blocks.
The structure is supported by piers fixed with the continuous beam, realized by pairs of flexible septa, in order to absorbe the concrete creep, shrinkage and thermal deformation.
The "active joints" allow to obtain a structural behaviour completely similar to the one of the continuous spans. The "active joints" have been realized interposing, between the cantilever extremities (type Gerber) of the four central joints, two transversal rows of sliding bearings, then tightening the joint with prestressing tendons.
Feasibility study and preliminary design (1998-1999). Draft final design (2000) for the Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund - Nigeria. Final design (2004-2006) for the Federal Ministry of Works (F.M.W.) - Nigeria.
